Everyone loves karaoke and Spotify makes it simple to run a great karaoke event or party. Not only is the instrumental version of nearly every song available; but Spotify also has on screen lyrics as well as HUGE karaoke channels with nearly every song you can think of. Even better, you can use the Spotify Recorder to rip your favorite karaoke jams with on screen lyrics to play back whenever you want.
What You’ll Need to get the Most out of Your Spotify Karaoke Session:
1. HDMI cable to connect your laptop to the TV
2. Laptop running Spotify or using the Spotify Recorder
3. TV, a big one
4. Microphone, or you can use your smartphone if you’re on a budget!
Let’s get started:
If you’ve purchased any type of computer within the last 7 or 7 years it will have an HDMI port that will allow you to view your computers monitor or laptop screen right on your television. The HDMI cable and port look like this:
Connect the HDMI cable from your computer to your television as illustrated. Next, change the source of your televisions input to HDMI. This can be done using your remote’s “Source” button, or by using the remote’s “Input” button. Once installed correctly, you should see your computers display appear on your television screen as illustrated.
While it’s possible that you already have a Smart TV with the Spotify application running, for the time being it works much better overall using a laptop with the setup were using.
Next, go ahead and click the “Lyrics” button at the bottom of your Spotify dashboard. This will created a dynamic on screen presentation of the lyrics of that song. Make sure you are playing the instrumental version as Spotify has infinite instrumentals of nearly every song.
Now, you can either connect a microphone to your laptop’s mic port, or if you’re on a budget you can download the Microphone App from Google Play. Preferably, a wireless microphone connected via BlueTooth or USB is best, especially if your karaoke party involves drinking; but either way is good!
Finally, enjoy your karaoke party!
